I don’t have too many memories of Halloween from my youth. Mostly, I remember being excited to come up with a costume and go trick or treating with my dad. It’s weird to think that it wasn’t too long ago that my age was in the single digits and did stuff like going trick or treating. Sometimes, it feels like lifetimes ago, but sometimes, it feels like it was just yesterday.
We didn’t have a lot of money to spend on frivolous things growing up, so my mom made my costumes for me. (Sidenote: Apparently, Target Hates Homemade Costumes). I was a witch like at least 3 times. But maybe when I was little, I liked dressing up as a witch. I always thought it would be neat to cast spells on people and fly around on broomsticks. I stopped dressing up in middle school and high school, when I grew into the sullen apathetic teenage part of my life. And then once in college, I dressed up as Michaelangelo, the teenage mutant turtle. It was an odd choice of a Halloween costume for a girl in college. I think it was my roommate’s idea.
Nonetheless, I’m excited for this upcoming Halloween weekend. I’m visiting my cousin’s house and we’re taking my little nieces trick or treating. I think they’re really excited about this. And since they’re really excited, so am I.
